Great Kids

Thanks again to all the wonderful archivists and collectors who do the dirty work and unglamorous sorting for the love of game. It is because of these wonderful people that we get unearthed hidden gems like this 3 album compilation of records of Fela Kuti and his highlife days.

Highlife is a genre originating out of West Africa specifically Ghana, where African rhythms fused with the forced colonization of westerners and their music especially military brass bands. Crudely put, its African rhythms mixed with Jazz, it has a long tradition and history itself that runs parallel to other forms of jazz music and the African diaspora.

Compiled by a Japanese chemistry professor who collected African vinyl, this collection is an amazing insight into a scene of music we rarely get to experience as westerners and we get to hear Fela on the trumpet! That's right he used to play Trumpet, before switching to saxophone, a move he described as affecting his kissing.

This composition is a nice bright breezy highlife number in C major with kinda a St. Thomas vibe.

Let me know what to do next and enjoy!

Peace

Jake
