Tina Brooks came from the R&B band tradition and did not have as much recording dates as i'm sure he would've liked but the stuff he did record is excellent including this album as a leader!
This was sort of his breakout record and the one usually referred to when talking about Tina Brooks and for good reason, it's grade A blue note boppy swingy goodness, a great band ft. a young Freddie Hubbard and a nice selection of tunes including this one!
"Nothing ever changes my love for you" was written by the team of Marvin Fisher and Jack Segal both accomplished composers in their own right and was originally sung by Nat King Cole in a more orchestral style, which was the style at the time. I like Brooks interpretation because of that peppy Latin feel and re imagining of what is truly a sappy good ol' love song.
This album is great and This is a certified Blue Note Classic.
Hope you enjoy.
Peace and Love
