Formidable

McLeans first album on Blue Note doesn't disappoint! Full of interesting McLean and Davis compositions which blend styles and really show how innovative and swinging Hard Bop was at this point in time. I love this album so much and will be transcribing more from it soon. My favorite quote from the Liner notes is “Jackie likes this album.” Thats all I gotta say.

Donald Byrd, trumpet; Jackie McLean, alto sax; Walter Davis Jr., piano; Paul Chambers, bass; Pete La Roca, drums; recorded Van Gelder Studio, Hackensack, NJ, May 2, 1959, released July 1959.
