While Lee Morgan may get well deserved respect for his chops, few words are spoken about how great of a composer he was too. Especially while he was Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, he could hold his own with Wayne and sometimes out do him.

Pisces is the last sign on the zodiac, supposedly imaginative and empathetic, which i think is the perfect way to describe the vibe of this tune.

A languid flowing piece with an unusual long form, this is Lee the introspective, and if it is like other Morgan pieces it of course is written for a love interest.

This cut comes from the release “The Freedom Rider” on a japan only vinyl release, but thankfully the full album has been released on streaming services.
